While serving in the military I’ve had my fair share of PCS moves and to be honest, moving is stressful. Even if you are the type of person who embraces change there is still an overwhelming sense of chaos that goes along with a move.
Interestingly, military peroneal moves three times more than civilians. Of course, it is nerve-wracking when you find out you and your family just got orders to a new location. However, being on top of the moving process and knowing a little information about military moves can make the transition a bit easier.
How are you moving?
Standard military packs all your stuff and moves it for you move or…DITY moves are where you do EVERYTHING yourself and the military will compensate you for your efforts. There is also a Partial Dity move which many people like because it allows for the flexibility to do both. These options should be discussed with your family to determine which move is going to make the most sense for you.
Next, start researching when you will be leaving and when you will be arriving at your next duty station. Figure out where you will stay temporarily until you can decide whether you will be renting or buying a home. For more information or which of the two is right for your family check my other blog on renting VS buying for members of the military
PCSing is stressful. No matter if it’s your first move or you are an avid relocation expert. However, if you can arm yourself with a little knowledge of military moves you will be on your way to a less stressful relocation.
